In this weeks blog we’re going to show you a technique we like to refer to as the Renzo Choke. It was originally taught to us by our old instructor, a long time ago, Renzo Gracie. In this side control attack you’ll utilize your lapel furthest away from your opponents head. The idea is that you’ve been rolling and your gi is loose and comes undone. Or you inconspicuously pull the lapel out.

Utilize the lapel furthest away from his head.

100 kilos

Allowing him to bridge to create space.

Pass lapel to opposite hand.

Flatten opponent back out.

Come around and post left leg out.

Straighten arm to go for choke.
We’re just straightening the arm out. The gi is choking one side and our forearm is blocking the carotid on the same side we are. The key is to move north, the lapel won’t be long enough, if you stay where your at you won’t be able to rotate to finish this technique. That is what we refer to the Renzo Choke from Side Control.
