Today we’re back and this blog complements the last blog – Learn How to Control & Attack the Weak Side. This particular blog is about Transitioning from the Back Mount to the Crucifix and back to the Back Mount. It’s very common that when we end up on the weak side our opponent can put their back to the mat to escape. However, as long as we can maintain control over the far arm they’re going to go right into a crucifix position.
We’ll be starting off in the back control position, falling to the weak side. Beginning to attack with a choke.
Next, we shrimp and kick him away to give us room to move our foot up. Once he starts to defend the choke, we bring the foot in and kick his arm away. Bringing it to his side and trapping it.
He then starts to escape by putting his back to the mat but because his arm is being trapped he’s now in a crucifix position.
We’re still going to continue to try to choke him from this position. His defense to that is to bridge into me. Putting all his weight on me makes this attack more difficult to finish.
So, now I’m going to take my bottom leg and put my knee to the outside of his hip. Transitioning to the back mount position.
This is going to allow me to shrimp, push off and get my hips out. I lift that same leg to use as a hook. My other foot stays behind his back to keep it trapped.
And from here we can go right back to the Choke or go right back to the Armbar to finish the attack. In our previous technique/video, we showed the Choke/Armbar combination which plays right into this position. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching!
