Alright, we’re going to look at a Single Leg X Entry when your opponent is standing in front of you. And we’re going to be playing a butterfly, shin on shin type guard. Once they stand and try to pass your guard (open that guard and try to pass) we’re going to look at a sweep.
So from here, I’m standing over Guy’s guard, he has a shin to shin connection he’s going to grab behind the leg. (Image 1)
Now from here what he wants to do is take his free hand and block the inside of my knee so that I can’t really move and my legs stay open. He’s going to fall to his shoulder lifting his left leg. (Image 2) Falling into the Single Leg X position. (Image 3)
Alright, from here, what I would like to do because I know I don’t want to stay here too long because he could put me off balance and sweep me. I’m going to take my right hand (in this case) grab his toes and I’m going to try to pry his foot off. What I would like to do if possible, is to stuff this leg and start to come to the mount position. (Image 4)
Now, as soon as he feels me grabbing his foot he knows what’s coming. He knows I’m going to try to push it off. So as I push his foot, he’s going to let it go to the ground. With this hook that’s still in the middle and with his foot now on the ground he’s going to lift me, bringing my weight overhead. Forcing my hands to the ground. (Image 5)
He wants to be ready with his right hand because he knows I’m going to step forward. As I hit he’s going to come up on his knees and then look to come on top. (Images 6) (Image 7)
So that’s just a really simple, common entry into the single leg x position especially when your partner is standing above you. It’s an easy way to get into it. And then once they try to pry that guard open to look for the pass it’s a good counter. A very easy, effective counter because of their momentum and weight going, an easy way to come up on top.
