The most common statement that we hear at the academy is “I want to start but…” There are three common excuses that follow that statement they are….
#1: “I need to get in shape first” – That is probably the number one thing that we always hear “you know I’m interested,” “I watch a little UFC,” “I’ve always wanted to try it out but man..I’m just so out of shape!” “I need to get in shape first and then I’m going to come.” The best analogy to this excuse would be like saying “I need to get smarter before I start school.” It doesn’t make any sense. Part of starting any Martial Arts program is the benefits of getting in shape. Getting in shape is probably the number one benefit for most adults as well as young kids. So, you don’t need to be in shape to get started. If you’re at a legitimate Academy that teaches any Martial Art, in particular we teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, the way we structure our programs are specific to someone who is out of shape.
#2: “I need some experience” – “Don’t I need to know a little bit before I come in?” Our Intro program, Beginner program is designed for the beginner student. This program is going to teach you foundational things that you need to know in order to build your Jiu Jitsu knowledge. Alright guys and gals? So, don’t be scared about not having any knowledge in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. 99% of the people that walk into our Academy don’t have any experience.
#3: “Will I get hurt?” – That’s a big concern. Martial Arts is a contact sport typically. Again, if your training at a legitimate, professional facility the Intro programs are designed in a way that you do not get hurt. We at our Academy structure classes and drills in a way where you’re getting a good workout; you’re getting a good sweat; you’re learning technique but in a safe way. We have specific drills that we implement and that we do to allow you to acquire the knowledge and the skill set to get better but in a much safer way. So, guys and gals if you’re looking at starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or any Martial Art we highly recommend you go out find the closest school near you, check them out and make sure that they’re going to meet your needs.
